Senator Doug Ricks, R-Dist. 34, has served Idaho in the legislature for years now. A small business owner and former BYU-Idaho employee, in 2020, he finished his first term in the House of Representatives in Idaho. He’s now in his second term as a state senator for Idaho’s 34th District. Since then, he’s become the Vice Chair of Judiciary & Rules and a member of the Local Government and Taxation committee.
He talked to BYU-Idaho Radio about the issues he’s concerned about for Idaho.
“We've done some measures the last few years to try to reduce the property taxes. And so we'll take a look at that and see if there's some adjustments that we need to be made in order to keep those taxes kind of in check,” he said.
Besides that, he hopes to also discuss plans about policy changes that can help Idahoans have more money in their pocket as well changes in how taxes work and more.
“I look forward to trying to increase the grocery tax credit to try to match the amount of sales tax that Idahoans are paying at the grocery store since the inflation on food prices have gone up. So, I think we have a priority to get an increase in that or possibly remove sales tax completely from groceries,” Ricks said.
