President Alvin F. Meredith III and his wife, Jennifer Meredith gave their devotional talks to open the Winter 2025 semester. Their topics mirrored recent general conference talks from President Russell M. Nelson, the president of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
President Meredith told BYU-Idaho Radio his goal for this new semester.
“It's the same goal that I have all the time, and that is to help develop disciples of Jesus Christ who are leaders in their homes, the Church and their community,” he said.
In his devotional talk, he told the students that the atonement of Jesus Christ is not just for sinners.
“But it is also for saints … it is for all of us,” he said.
Sister Meredith shared a quote from President Nelson, a beckoning call for all people, students or not, to partake of the sacrifice of the Savior. “May we access the power of His Atonement by our repentance each day. And may we dedicate and rededicate our lives to serving God and His children—on both sides of the veil.”
“There's a phrase in there that years ago, maybe a decade ago, I was singing that in sacrament meeting and there's a phrase that says, ‘More fit for his kingdom, more used would I be.’ And the thought that came to my mind is that I needed to be more fit physically, spiritually, intellectually, just in all the different ways that we talk about from Luke chapter 2 verse 52. That the more I am striving to be more fit, the more our Father can use me and use you and the talents He's given each of us and the abilities He's given each of us. So I think submitting our will is part of that,” she said.
