REXBURG—BYU-Idaho’s Outdoor Resource Center is holding its annual garage sale, where students and community members can come together to buy and sell used outdoor gear.

“This is a super exciting event that the ORC or the Outdoor Resource Center does,” said Jared Carlquist, who has worked at the ORC for over two years. “Once a year, we sell some of our used rental gear that has been through the shop for a while. Of course, we sell it in good condition so you can use it after you buy it, but it kind of completes our purpose that we have of trying to get people outside.”

The goal of the Outdoor Resource Center is to introduce students and community members to all the outdoor opportunities and activities that can be found in Rexburg and the surrounding areas. The garage sale gives students and community members the chance to purchase quality used gear at discounted prices.

“The garage sale kind of gives us the ability to help kids start things on a budget,” Carlquist said. “Some of the things we sell maybe brand new, there's several thousand dollars, but pick them up at the yard sale for a couple hundred at best.”

In addition to gear for sale from the Outdoor Resource Center, the sale will also offer outdoor gear and equipment community members have brought to be sold.

“The community, students, and just about anybody else can come and use our storefront as an opportunity to sell some of their used gear,” Carlquist said. “There is a share of course. They keep 80% of the profit. But it's just a good way for them to get some exposure other than Facebook marketplace or Depop. It just gives them a chance to network meet some people and unload some of their gear they can't use anymore.”

The Outdoor Resource Center Garage sale is on Saturday from 8 a.m. to noon. You can find more information about the sale and the ORC on its website here.
