Why become an online instructor?
At a university that is part of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, our instructors have the unique opportunity to offer testimony and gospel perspective while sharing expertise in their discipline. Many who teach for BYU-Idaho and BYU-Pathway Worldwide do so out of a desire to give back and bless the lives of future generations. Teaching online is ideal for those who value a flexible work/life schedule. Instructors have the flexibility to schedule those hours around their other obligations.
Time and Compensation
Pay starting at $1,050 per credit
Online instructors spend roughly 9 hours per week in a typical three-credit course. Instructors with a master's degree or higher will be compensated at a rate of $1,150 per credit and instructors with a bachelor's degree will receive $1,050 per credit.
Online curriculum is pre-developed by BYU-Idaho faculty and instructional designers. Typically instructors do not do live video lectures.
Paid Training Experience
Prior to teaching, new instructors complete an online instructor training experience. This paid, asynchronous training prepares instructors to facilitate a student-centered learning experience online.
Online instructors represent The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and the mission of BYU-Idaho and BYU-Pathway Worldwide. They guide students to become capable disciple leaders in their personal and professional lives.
Good standing within The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
Master’s degree or higher (unless otherwise stated in the job posting).
Work experience in a related field is preferred.
Online and/or classroom teaching experience is preferred but not required. Current part-time employees of any entity of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints may not teach online in addition to their current employment. Retirees of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints entities are not eligible.

One-week online asynchronous Candidate Assessment Course
If a candidate qualifies, assessments are retained for future consideration as hiring needs arise.
The Candidate Assessment Course need not be repeated if
future applications are submitted.

The online instructor hiring process is not typical. We collect applications several semesters in advance for potential vacancies. New instructors are not needed for every course each hiring cycle.
Candidates who do not submit materials according to the timeline below may experience an additional wait time.
When candidates submit their application, they are applying to course interest lists in preparation for anticipated future vacancies, not to fill immediate hiring needs.
Interest list postings may be opened or closed at any time and typically have no set hire or close date to allow for increased flexibility in meeting hiring demands.
Two Year Data
Application information remains active for two years, at which point they expire.
Candidates may submit multiple applications. The application system will auto-populate personal, academic, and professional details in successive applications. Supplemental questions are specific to each posting.

Final hiring decisions are contingent upon obtaining an ecclesiastical endorsement which confirms good standing within The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
