BYU-Idaho Celebrates Growing Enrollment, Navigates Housing Shortage

BYUI Letters - May 2025

REXBURG, IDAHO — July 11, 2025— During its 25th year as a university, Brigham Young University-Idaho is celebrating remarkable enrollment growth. Enrollment this fall could reach 25,000 students—an increase of 9% compared to last year.

The surge highlights the growing appeal of BYU-Idaho’s Christ-centered, student-focused mission, providing an education that “[develops] disciples of Jesus Christ who are leaders in their homes, the Church, and their communities.” It also reflects broader momentum across the institutions of the Church Educational System, where young adults are choosing faith-based learning in greater numbers.

With this exciting growth comes a real challenge: housing availability. Current records indicate that student demand is exceeding available housing. In anticipation of the record-breaking incoming class, BYU-Idaho is expanding housing tools, increasing communications, and exploring both immediate and long-term support for impacted students.

“We will have another record-breaking incoming class this fall, and more students than we have beds for,” said Brett Sampson, university spokesperson. “We’re excited by the energy and spirit this incoming class brings, and we recognize the stress this situation may cause. We are doing all we can to navigate solutions in partnership with students and community leaders.”
