Extravadance: "Celebration in Color"

Extravadance-2020

BYU-Idaho dancers are nearly ready for Extravadance, a dance performance by BYU-Idaho dance students who share their talents with the community. This semester’s show is called “Celebration in Color,” which celebrates dance. Brenna Olsen is a performer and representative for the show, she said one emotion she feels before she dances is adrenaline.

“I’m kind of an adrenaline junky, and you get full of adrenaline when you are about to get on stage and it just makes me smile,” she said.

What is exciting about this performance is how there are so many different types of dances. There is American folk, ballet, jazz, hip-hop, tap, world dance and many more. This gives everyone in the audience a musical number they will enjoy.

“We try to get a huge variety of all of them,” Olsen said.

Olsen’s favorite genre for dancing is jazz, since she grew up dancing to it, and she is excited she can perform in the jazz number. One of the musical numbers she is in is all about Broadway. The performers will dance a combination of multiple famous musicals and Frank Sinatra’s popular song “New York.” Olsen said the musical number feels like they are really on Broadway.

Another dance number will include lots of colors to demonstrate the name of the show, “Celebration in Color.”

“We are focusing on the dynamic energies and the experiences we have as we dance and being able to bring that on stage, and bringing that, so the audience can feel and experience it with us too,” Olsen said.

After long hours of rehearsals, the dance teams will perform March 17 through March 21. Tickets for the general audience are $6 or $3 with a BYU-Idaho ID. You can get your tickets by clicking here.
