Considerations for Fall Semester 2020

Idaho is carefully monitoring COVID-19 and planning to potentially open campus this fall semester. While an official decision has not been made, the university is working to make the following course-delivery options available. Each option satisfies state, federal, and Church guidelines—with emphasis on health, sanitation, and safe practices.

  • Face-to-Face: offerings of in-person classroom gatherings each week
  • Hybrid: combination of in-person classroom gatherings AND remote instruction (both required)
  • HyFlex: in-person classroom gatherings OR remote instruction (student choice with instructor oversight)
  • Remote: virtual gatherings, same as spring semester, where students meet synchronously at the same time
  • Online: traditional online courses, where students meet asynchronously

In opening campus courses for fall semester, BYU-Idaho plans to adhere to recommended guidelines and sanitization needs for the campus community. These measures may include:

  • Classrooms arranged to meet social-distancing guidelines
  • Routes designated for entering and exiting each building to reduce cross-traffic contact
  • Building assistants employed to guide movement between classes
  • Buildings and classrooms thoroughly and regularly sanitized
  • Additional precautionary measures (masks, testing, quarantine, etc.)

Get Connected, student activities, events, and other social gatherings are being planned and modified to meet safety guidelines.

BYU-Idaho looks forward to welcoming back students for fall semester but remains flexible with these options, and the need to adjust them, depending on the status of COVID-19. As students plan for fall semester, they should consider their personal situations. In choosing to come to campus, the requirements of student housing contracts should also be carefully determined. Additional announcements and decisions regarding classes, registration, events, and safety regulations, etc., will be communicated as fall semester approaches. Students are encouraged to check www.byui.edu regularly.
