SpringFest Brings Energy to the BYU-Idaho Community

In addition to past favorites, the event introduced brand-new on-campus and off-campus activities.

The 2025 SpringFest brought students to enjoy the warm weather—offering a glimpse of summertime and a chance to unwind before midterms.

With multiple activities offered every day, there was something for everyone. In addition to the classics, activities like High School Musical Night, Mudfest, and Rigby Lake Day made their debut during this year’s edition.

Service Day

Continuing a regular tradition, SpringFest started by inviting students to give back to the community.

“We just try to show how we are grateful for the community. So, every semester, we try to go out and serve,” said McKenna Jones, student activities event council member.

On Monday night, students and Home Evening groups gathered around tables set up in the Stadium parking lot. With projects ranging from crafting friendship bracelets to assembling hygiene kits, all participants could contribute.

After the service project, the items were distributed to the Family Crisis Center, the Homestead, shelters, and places in need.

Rexburg Day

Students celebrate SpringFest at Rigby Lake

On Tuesday, BYU-Idaho students had a free pass to Rigby Lake and access to various water sports equipment.

Thanks to a partnership with the ORC, participants had fun paddle boarding, kayaking, and tubing. They enjoyed how everything was provided—they just needed to show up.

“It's been great, I’m glad that they are doing this. It's definitely the coolest thing so far that we've done as an activity,” student Shaun Franklin said.

Rodeo Day

Students participate in and watch a rodeo for SpringFest Spirit Week at the Jefferson County Fairgrounds in Rigby.

On Wednesday, BYU-Idaho hosted a rodeo at the Jefferson County Fairgrounds in Rigby. Enthusiastic claps, cheers, and foot stomps filled the air as students packed the bleachers surrounding the arena.

The event line-up included attractions where students could step into the arena themselves.

These included steer riding, tug of war, cash cow and cash steer, and rounds of “Cowboy Landmine”—a crowd favorite, where participants tried to dodge lassos and avoid getting roped.

After the rodeo, students stayed for a country dancing night, which ended with a fireworks show.

True Blue/Adventure Day

Teams take on The Great Adventure Race as part of Spring Fest.

On Thursday, coed teams of students raced across campus, completing 20 obstacles together. Obstacles included kayak relays, trike relays, mind games, the ropes course’s quick flight, and many more.

“The Great Adventure Race was a huge success,” said Abbey Stratford. “This was the first time we had ever done this event, and we were very happy with how everything turned out. We loved doing a team event that brought everyone together.”

Prizes were awarded to two winning teams—the team that finished fastest and the team with the most creative costumes.

Movie Day

After a dance instruction on one of High School Musical’s choreographies, the Hart Gymnasium was turned into a giant movie theater.

Students filled its floor and bleachers as they sang, clapped, laughed, and cheered during the movie showing.

“Somebody said that it's just very nostalgic and that all people or any age group can relate to the movie because, at one point, we all have gone to high school,” said Elizabeth Bleckler.

During the final scene, students got up to dance to “We're All In This Together,” a well-known hit from the movie franchise.

Mud Plunge Day

Students participate in the Mud Fest Day of Spring Fest spirit week.

On Saturday, BYU-Idaho’s first Mudfest attracted a large crowd of attendees. Participants could choose from a variety of games set up on the grass, the Ropes Course, or the mud.

Lialani Johnson, Fusiana Johnson, and Anora Plant attended the event together and enjoyed the various activity options, especially the different challenges in the mud.

Participants got covered in mud playing volleyball, playing tug of war, and crawling through an obstacle course.
