BYU-Idaho Washington D.C. Alumni Chapter hosts an evening with President Meredith

BYU-Idaho created another alumni chapter this spring.

This past March, representatives from Rexburg traveled to the East Coast to celebrate the launch of the BYU-Idaho Washington D.C. Alumni Chapter—the 25th chapter launched since 2023.

During the week, the BYU-Idaho administrators met with companies, incoming students, current students interning in D.C., and alumni living or working in the D.C. area.

“From a packed chapel of YSA, to overflowing seminary classes, to meaningful conversations with strong, supportive senators—it was an extraordinary week,” said Dain Hansen, chair of the new alumni chapter.

The visit highlighted the strong and growing network of BYU-Idaho students and alumni in the D.C. area.

BYU-Idaho’s Career Center supports students seeking internships in D.C. through the Washington D.C. Summit program, which connects students to employers and housing options in the area.

“Opportunities like this are super important because I didn't even know what opportunities there were in Washington D.C. or other opportunities in general, but the Career Center or the D.C. expedition helped me get my hands on all these different options and guide my search for an internship,” said Emely Hernandez, an international studies major at BYU-Idaho interning in D.C. “I think the expedition also helped me dip my toes a little into what D.C. would look like, even if it was just for a few days. And coming to that expedition helped me realize that D.C. was a place I wanted to go back to.”

The week ended with a celebratory dinner, hosted by the Washington D.C. Alumni Chapter, where President Alvin F. Meredith III and Student Life Vice President Amy Renee shared messages about BYU-Idaho’s current direction, new initiatives, and the lasting impact and value of a BYU-Idaho education.
