Thursday was the very last day of the Winter 2020 semester and it has been a very different semester compared with past semesters at BYU-Idaho. Many graduating students are wondering where their life will take them and how they will use their degree in the work field.
Hannah Black graduated from BYU-Idaho in 2015 with a bachelor’s degree in physical science and a double cluster of nutrition and psychology. Her plan was to become an occupational therapist or a speech therapist, but since graduation, her career has taken a lot of different twists and turns.
“I love (teaching),” she said. "I never thought I would be a teacher, I never thought I would enjoy teaching. I always told teachers ‘I don’t know how you do that.’”
Now, she is currently a high school teacher and it’s something she never thought would happen with her career. Black teaches Physical Science which is something she loves because she is able to use her degree.
“I studied as much as I could, I learned as much as I could and then it took me a different path, but I still apply all of those things even though over time I kind of had to learn to adjust and find different career paths for myself,” she said.
Black says it’s very common for college graduates to have their career paths change, and it’s important to have an open mind and stay close to our Heavenly Father. She says God has a bigger plan for us.
Black also conducts personal training and coaching classes online with clients every month, which is something she is grateful to be doing. Another thing she does is share her work outs and routines on social media to help people know more about nutrition and working out.
“Now, looking back its pretty cool to see how what I wanted to do as a passion is still part of my life even though it’s in a complete different way than I expected it to be,” she said.
