BYU-Idaho Fall 2026 Enrollment Remains Steady Even with Significant Increase in Missionary Deferments

BYU-Idaho saw an additional 1,000 students defer their enrollment for the Fall 2026 Semester compared to Fall 2025 to serve as missionaries for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. This comes after the Church lowered the minimum missionary service age last November from 19 to 18 for women. Considering this significant increase in deferments, campus enrollment remained relatively stable, declining by only a couple hundred students.

Statistics released for the Fall 2026 Semester show a total matriculated enrollment of 24,111 campus-based students, which is a 1.4% decrease over the Fall 2025 Semester. This number includes 20,868 campus-based students who are enrolled in face-to-face courses and 3,243 campus-based students who are enrolled in online courses and/or internships. The university estimates that approximately 22,000 students are living in Rexburg this semester.

This semester, the campus-based student body consists of 12,526 male students and 11,585 female students (52% percent and 48% percent respectively). Married students make up 18 percent of the total campus-based student population.

In addition, BYU-Idaho enrolls 24,308 online students who are serviced in partnership with BYU-Pathway Worldwide. This leads to a total of 48,419 total enrolled students in BYU-Idaho courses this semester.

BYU-Idaho continues to develop disciples of Jesus Christ who are leaders in their homes, the Church, and their communities by combining a high-quality yet affordable education in a spiritual and fun environment.
