Nursing Pre-Licensure Introduction
The Department of Public Health and Nursing offers a high caliber nursing education recognized by healthcare systems for our focus on clinical readiness. Our accelerated BSN is designed for students who are ready to move quickly into the medical field, providing the clinical foundation and professional mentorship required to take learning from the classroom to the bedside.
Professional Training in a Realistic Environment
We believe that communication in nursing is an essential clinical skill. Our program utilizes a diverse range of training methods to ensure students are comfortable in various patient scenarios:
- Clinical Simulation Center: Our labs provide a safe space to master foundational nursing skills and become proficient with standard medical equipment.
- Patient Actors & Real-World Scenarios: In simulations we utilize patient actors as well as manikins to build true clinical confidence. This allows students to practice patient interaction, history-taking, and bedside manner in addition to clinical skills in a realistic, low-stakes environment even as they learn in the clinical setting. (we use sim before and during clinical rotations)
- Virtual Reality: Offers more simulations and settings that are difficult to find or experience in clinical rotations.
- Experienced Faculty Support: Students are guided by faculty members who have spent years in the field. They serve as both instructors and mentors, helping to transfer preparation in academic coursework to professional practice.
Clinical Experience and Patient Care
Hands-on experience is the core of our curriculum. Through required clinical hours, you will move beyond the lab and into active healthcare settings.
- Direct Patient Interaction: Work directly with patients to apply what you have learned in class to real-life situations.
- Technical Proficiency: Learn to properly use the equipment and technology found in modern hospitals, ensuring you are prepared for the technical demands of the job.
- Career Preparation: By the time you graduate, you will have the experience needed to step into a nursing role with the confidence that only direct, supervised practice can provide.
