The Distinguished Graduate Award was originally named after one of the department’s great professors: Larry Thompson, who taught at Ricks/BYU-Idaho for 36 years (1969 – 2004). Larry was a voracious reader, a dedicated scholar, a constant inspiration to students and other faculty, and the perfect example of a life-long learner. He represented the best combination of a scholar, teacher, and devoted disciple of Jesus Christ.
The Distinguished Graduate Award recognizes our students who follow in Larry Thompson’s footsteps. They represent the best students, scholars, and life-long learners among our graduates. The award is given to graduating seniors each term based on a vote by department faculty. We are proud of all our graduates. We are especially proud of and hopeful for the continued success of our Distinguished Graduate Award winners. We expected a lot from them during their college years, and we know they will make us proud wherever they go in the future.
