Scott Flynn, MS, CSCS, CEP
Program Director, Strength & Conditioning Academy
Scott Flynn serves as Program Director of the Strength & Conditioning Academy at BYU-Idaho. A Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist and Clinical Exercise Physiologist, Scott brings his passion for sports and human performance to every athlete he trains. A native of Georgia, he excelled in varsity basketball, tennis, football, and soccer, and later became a “D” licensed soccer coach with more than 15 years of club coaching experience.
Scott has embraced endurance sport, completing nearly 100 triathlon events from sprint to full Ironman distance, earning All-American honors from USA Triathlon from 2013–2016, and top finishes in major races. He also mentors students as they prepare for careers in performance training, combining evidence-based programming with character development. Outside the academy, Scott enjoys endurance sports and supporting students as they pursue personal and professional growth.

Martin Dietze-Hermosa, Ph.D., CSCS, D, USAW, PES, FMS
Program Director, Strength & Conditioning Academy
Martin Dietze-Hermosa serves as Program Director of the Strength & Conditioning Academy and faculty in the Exercise Physiology program at BYU-Idaho. He earned his Bachelor’s in Exercise Physiology at BYU-Idaho, a Master of Science in Exercise and Sport Science from the University of Utah, and a Doctorate in Interdisciplinary Health Sciences from the University of Texas at El Paso.
Dr. Dietze-Hermosa holds advanced strength and conditioning certifications and has conducted extensive research in sports performance, sprint training, and aging and exercise, presenting at multiple academic conferences and publishing in peer-reviewed journals. He has led youth performance programs and supervised training that helped a local ice hockey team earn a state championship. Martin’s coaching philosophy emphasizes lifelong fitness, technical excellence, and personal confidence. Off the field, he enjoys competitive sports and mentoring students as they build meaningful careers in human performance.

Parker Atamanczyk
Coach, Strength & Conditioning Academy
Parker Atamanczyk brings energy and a deep understanding of athletic movement to the Strength & Conditioning Academy. A lifelong soccer player from Idaho Falls, Parker also competed in track and field, including the 400m, 1600m, and pole vault, giving him a well-rounded background in speed, power, and endurance.
Currently studying Exercise Physiology at BYU-Idaho, Parker’s focus is helping athletes build confidence, improve performance, and unlock potential through intentional training. He stays active through diverse sports like dirt biking, snowboarding, and pickleball, and is committed to developing strong fundamentals and a lifelong love of fitness in every athlete he coaches.

Rylie Davis
Coach, Strength & Conditioning Academy
Rylie Davis, from Saratoga Springs, Utah, discovered her passion for strength training through high school track and cross country, later running marathons and lifting weights. Currently studying Exercise and Rehabilitation Science at BYU-Idaho, Rylie is a certified personal trainer with experience supporting athletes of many ages and abilities.
Rylie enjoys helping athletes find joy in movement, build strength, and gain confidence. She brings enthusiasm and a supportive teaching style to the academy and loves encouraging youth to work hard and have fun while staying active.

Nathan Gonzales
Coach, Strength & Conditioning Academy
Nathan Gonzales is a dedicated athlete and coach originally from Monroe, Washington. With experience competing in high school football and track & field, Nathan understands the physical and mental demands of sport. He is a Certified Personal Trainer completing his Exercise Physiology degree at BYU-Idaho and pursuing CSCS certification.
Nathan’s coaching focuses on teaching proper mechanics, injury prevention, and building a strong foundation for lifelong strength and skill. He hopes to become a high school performance coach and physical education teacher, guiding athletes toward excellence on and off the field.
Nathan Gonzales is a dedicated athlete and coach originally from Monroe, Washington. Bryce Hunt
Coach, Strength & Conditioning Academy
Bryce Hunt grew up near Los Angeles, California, and discovered a passion for athletics through high school wrestling and a wide range of sports. He is pursuing a degree in Exercise Physiology with an emphasis in movement and rehabilitation at BYU-Idaho and plans to attend graduate school for a Doctorate in Physical Therapy and CSCS certification.
As a coach, Bryce is committed to helping people improve overall health and performance. He believes every athlete can grow in skill and confidence through effort and smart training, and he finds great joy in watching their success.

Jacob Scibelli
Coach, Strength & Conditioning Academy
Jacob Scibelli grew up on the East Coast before pursuing exercise science after wrestling taught him resilience and discipline. Now a senior at BYU-Idaho, Jacob plans to apply to medical school and has contributed to exercise science research, presenting at the National Strength and Conditioning Association conference.
With experience coaching youth wrestlers and working as a fitness trainer, Jacob applies evidence-based practices to help clients achieve lasting results. His approach combines scientific understanding with personal encouragement, empowering athletes to improve performance and build confidence.

Sawyer Slagle
Coach, Strength & Conditioning Academy
Sawyer Slagle is from Rexburg, Idaho, where he attended Madison High School and competed in sports including soccer, basketball, track and field, and football. With 12 years of soccer experience and two years coaching youth, Sawyer brings both passion and practical teaching skills to the Strength & Conditioning Academy.
Currently studying Exercise Physiology at BYU-Idaho, Sawyer plans to attend graduate school to become a physical therapist. He is dedicated to helping athletes achieve their full potential on and off the field through intentional training and encouragement.
Sawyer Slagle is from Rexburg, Idaho, where he attended Madison High School and competed in sports including soccer, basketball, track and field, and football. Eden Taylor
Coach, Strength & Conditioning Academy
Eden Taylor is originally from Nashville, Tennessee, and is pursuing a degree in Exercise Physiology at BYU-Idaho, with plans for a master’s in Athletic Training. With a background in competitive soccer and endurance training for half marathons and marathons, Eden brings a diverse athletic perspective to strength and conditioning coaching.
Eden is passionate about helping athletes become stronger physically and mentally. Outside the gym, she enjoys rock climbing and spending time outdoors. Eden's long-term goal is to work as an athletic trainer in the National Hockey League.

Jay Varner is studying Physical Therapist Assisting and Exercise Physiology at BYU-Idaho while working at the campus Wellness Center. He has participated in numerous sports and fitness programs, and he is pursuing certifications in Strength and Conditioning, Personal Training, and Nutrition.
Jay’s long-term goal is to coach bodybuilders and professional athletes, helping them reach their highest potential through intentional training and smart programming. His coaching emphasizes identifying strengths and unlocking performance through thoughtful progressions and encouragement.
