POCATELLO-Zoo Idaho in Pocatello has welcomed a new cougar kitten and the zoo is asking the community to help choose her name.
The mountain lion kitten was found sick and orphaned near Afton, Wyoming. After receiving treatment and care from Alpine Animal Hospital and Zoo Idaho staff, the kitten is now healthy and thriving at the zoo.
Zoo Idaho says the cougar is expected to make her public debut in her exhibit by mid-summer, once she has grown large enough.
In the meantime, the zoo is inviting the public to submit name suggestions. Community members can suggest one name in the comments on Zoo Idaho’s Facebook or Instagram pages, or by emailing “yourzoo@pocatello.gov” before May 22.
After submissions close, Zoo Idaho staff will select three finalist names. The public will then have the opportunity to vote for their favorite through a five-dollar donation.
