On Friday, Yellowstone National Park opens many of its roads for the season. Then Saturday, the park celebrates National Park Week with a fee-free day.
Those who visit the park in the spring need to remember to be prepared for changing weather. It can quickly change from sunny weather to rain or snow in the park. There are also only a few roads open including the West Entrance to Old Faithful, Mammoth Hot Springs to Old Faithful, the North Entrance to Canyon Village and the North Entrance to Mammoth Hot Springs. There are also reduced services inside the park, so pack a lunch!
There will be opportunities to see animals from bears and elk to bison and coyotes and maybe even wolves. There are also baby bison that have recently been seen.
“That would be a wonderful thing to see for visitors in the coming weeks,” said Linda Veress, a public information specialist with Yellowstone National Park.
Visitors need to remember to keep their distance from animals – 25 yards for most animals and 100 yards for larger animals like bears.
There is a federal mask mandate in effect in the park. You’ll need to wear a mask when inside any buildings and when six feet of physical distancing is not possible.
