Witness Music Southeast Idaho: Lamb of God

“The Lamb of God” is a musical portrayal of the life of Jesus Christ. It also shows different people who loved him such as his mother Mary, Mary Magdalene, Thomas, John the Beloved, Martha of Bethany, Peter and many others.

Rob Gardner composed “The Lamb of God” and the music was recorded by the London Symphony Orchestra and the chorus by Spire Chorus in Arizona. It has been very popular in different parts of the world and in many faiths to celebrate Easter.

Witness Music Southeast Idaho first performed “The Lamb of God” in 2019 and now they will perform it again.

Karin Dance is the Pocatello representative, sponsor manager and soloist for Witness Music Southeast Idaho. She first heard “The Lamb of God” as an audience member before it had even been performed in Idaho and was absolutely blown away by the experience.

“I just fell in love, it pierced my soul and I felt the spirit of it, and I loved it so much,” she said.

After her experience seeing and hearing “The Lamb of God” for the first time, she was hoping someone would start doing it in Idaho. It wasn’t until 2018 when the processes started. She got the role of Mary and in this year’s performance she will be doing Mary Magdalene.

She loves being able to stand in the shoes of two amazing women who had the chance to meet Jesus Christ in his earthly life. Last year, when she was performing as Mary, there was one of the songs called “Here is Hope” after Jesus Christ dies on the cross. Dance expressed how that song was going to be a very emotional moment for her, but she went into the performance prayerfully which helped her gain a glimpse of what Mary herself felt.

“It was truly life changing for me to understand what it would have been for the mother of Christ,” she said.

Now she is singing in the role of Mary Magdalene and her experience seeing the Savior after he is resurrected. Both experiences have increased her understanding of Christ.

“It’s just such a joyful experience to stand in those shoes for a moment and ponder on and experience what it might have been like,” she said.

Dance also shared how Jesus Christ is depicted in “The Lamb of God” by the cello. There are certain things that can only be expressed through music, she said.

Their performances will be free to the public. Witness Music Southeast Idaho will perform Sunday, March 8 at 7 p.m. in Jensen Concert Hall in Pocatello, Monday, March 9 at 7 p.m. at Thunder Ridge High School in Idaho Falls and April 11 at 7 p.m. at the Rexburg Tabernacle in Rexburg.
