It’s exciting to attend BYU-Idaho, but it may be hard to know where to start with classes and professors.
At BYU-Idaho, some classes outshine others. The content of the class can definitely have an impact, but boiled down, it all depends on the effort that students and professors make to connect. It’s a two-way street, and most professors at BYU-Idaho are excited to meet you on it.
It also depends on the preference the student has for class structure, whether they need harder deadlines, a softer attendance policy, or smaller classes. These are all good things to know when looking at what classes to take and from which professor.
Meeting and introducing yourself to your professor at the beginning of each semester can jumpstart that student-professor relationship. Creating a more comfortable environment that makes it easier to ask questions and ask for help.
Consistently, students feel cared for at BYU-Idaho. In his Interpersonal Theory and Practice class, Brother Joel Judkins requires that you know each student's name in the class for points. This fosters connection and creates a safe space. Some professors require a semester check-in, where the student meets with the professor and they get to know each other. These are all ways that contribute to an enjoyable semester experience that help students feel cared for.
