The Spot: Music

The Spot.png

They say music speaks to the soul, so let us speak to yours with the highlights from our latest music episode. On this Grace Andrus, Camille Kolditz, Maddie Jones and guest Riley Vannortwick explore what music means to them.

On Repeat

We talked about some of our favorite artists like The Beatles, Conan Gray, The Temptations, and John Summit, as well as our favorite albums like From 2 to 3, Found Heaven, and Burning Days. Camille shared her unpopular opinion: she loves using her Spotify AI DJ to pick out songs for her.

On the Radio

Listening to the radio may not be as popular as it used to be, but there's still such a nostalgic vibe to it. Some of our favorite things to listen to on the radio are BYU-Idaho Radio’s music programs, like Showstoppers, The Perfect Score, and Sounds from the Snow.

Grace said she once went for a drive without any Bluetooth or aux cords, but luckily, she found a DJ station on the radio and jammed to house music the whole way to her destination. You just need to know the right stations and artists to find on the radio to have a good time.

Venues

The Rexburg music scene is alive and kicking. It's important to keep live music going in Rexburg, so please attend concerts from small bands and artists—and show support to your favorites. Some of our favorite places and venues to see live music are:

  • The Basement (rest in peace)
  • Womptober
  • Battle of the Bands
  • Random apartment complexes
  • The Rink
  • The Hangar (previously Venue 101)

Our special guest, Riley Vannortwick, was previously in a band called “F!SHBOWL” and is currently a co-owner of the music venue The Hangar. He shared “The best part about being in a band was playing the shows. Writing the music is fun, but playing the shows, especially for people who are enjoying it and getting into it, it's like... I don't know, it's hard to replicate that feeling.”
