If you have ever felt like you are faking your way through college, you are in good company.
In this week’s episode of The Spot, Grace Andrus, Camille Kolditz, Jeremy Chagadama, and Mattie Johnson open up about their experiences with imposter syndrome.
Imposter syndrome can look different for everyone, whether it's thinking you have to figure it all out on your own, or feeling like you're a failure if you're not perfect right away. In this episode, we dive into each type and how we have experienced it in our own lives.
There are about five different types:
The Perfectionist – “If I make even one mistake, I’ve failed.”
The Expert – “I don’t know enough; I have to keep learning before I’m ready.”
The Soloist – “I have to do this on my own. Asking for help = weakness.”
The Natural Genius – “If I don’t get it right the first time, I must not be good enough.” The Superhuman – “I must excel in everything or I’m a failure.”
Imposter Syndrome in all its different forms is something everyone encounters. In our discussion we learned that talking about it with friends, reframing it, knowing that you're not alone, and most importantly remembering your divine worth are great ways to overcome these feelings.
This episode reminded us that: we’re growing, we’re learning, and nobody really has it all figured out.
