Stroll into Rexburg for some art, music and fun

Some fun events are cooking up for next month with events like the Art Stroll happening this Friday, registration for theater camp and the Barbershop Music Festival.

This Friday, at the Romance Theater in Rexburg, Rexburg Arts will hold its monthly Art Stroll.

Artist and typographer Nils Lindstrom will debut his new font called Miss Saylor. Lindstrom has taught lettering and typography for 32 years at the ArtCenter College of Design in Pasadena, California and is currently an adjunct professor of Graphic Design at BYU-Idaho. Handmade book artist Scott Samuelson and Lisa Jones a printmaker and bookmaker will also be in attendance.

Artists will be mingling and displaying current art they are working on as well. This will include a hands-on activity where anyone can learn the elements of bookmaking, writing poems, making prints and making paper.

While the Art Stroll is taking place, guests are welcome to look at the set for “My Fair Lady” in the auditorium and see its beginning. The show is March 8 at 7 p.m. through March 16. People are encouraged to look at and help build the set while participating in the Art Stroll.

Starting now, Summer Theatre Camp registration is open. Ages 6 to 11 will perform the mini musical called “Stone Soup” by Sally K. Albrecht and Jay Althouse. This musical is about a group of travelers who create a meal from some unexpected ingredients. That’s not all, children 12 to 18 will perform the musical “Footloose.”

Camp dates for “Stone Soup” will be July 8 through the 19 with performances on July 19 and 20. The camp dates for “Footloose” will be July 29 through Aug. 9 with performances on Aug. 9 and 10. All performances will be held at the Romance Theater.

The Barbershop Music Festival is Feb. 17 at the Romance Theater. This Festival has been a 25-year tradition where students come and do music workshops. Artists from out of town and the surrounding area will come to perform and the community is invited to see a concert at the end.
