Every semester the BYU-Idaho theatre department puts on a spectacular performance of at least two play production. This semester one of the plays will be the Legend of Sleepy Hollow, directed by Rodger Merrill. The Legend of Sleepy Hollow’s story is centered around a character named Ichabod Crane, a bumbling eccentric schoolmaster, who moves to a superstitious town haunted by a headless horseman.

In an interview with BYU-Idaho radio Dylan Price the stage manager for the play production shared some of the vision the crew has work together on to make the play come to life.

“This story takes place in colonial times post-revolutionary war just after the war and so a lot of the costumes are based off that. They got the three-cornered hats they got those fancy jackets with tube socks and nice buckled shoes. As for the design of the set, we are using a very simplistic design. It is essentially just a couple of platforms put together, one lower, one higher.”

Price also mentioned that one of the challenges the cast has faced is endurance.

“Well one funny challenge that the cast dealt with this past week is there is like a six minute, almost six-minute dance scene where there's no dialogue. It is just music and just all this dancing. And we had Eric Olyphant, who is one of the faculty helped choreograph that. And they did, the cast did a phenomenal job at learning that dance. But by the time they were done, they were just exhausted. And some of them even said that their feet hurt. So, we let them, change their shoes so that they could wear something a little more comfortable.”

The Legend of Sleepy Hollow play production will run from October 18th until October 28th in the Black Box Theatre inside the Eliza R. Snow building. Shows on the 18th, 19th, 24th, 25th, and 26th will start at 7:30 p.m. and shows on the 20th, 21st, 27th, and 28th will begin at 6 and 8 p.m.
