The annual Roaring Youth Jam, a community art event, is back another year and starts next weekend.
The free event takes place August 8 through 10 at the Idaho Falls River Walk starting at 10 a.m.
This year’s theme is The Art Eras Tour. Participants will learn about different eras in art history and do projects associated with them. Some of the projects include Greek vases, pop art cupcakes, op art illusions and street art.
“This year our theme is The Art Eras Tour. You know, a little bit of inspiration from Taylor Swift there, but the projects are all going to be focused around different areas of art history. And you'll use different mediums. So we have painting, drawing, coloring, sculpture, collage and everything,” said Georgina Goodlander, the Visual Arts Director of the Idaho Falls Art Council.
The event also has many activities that people of all ages can enjoy while learning about art history. There will be face painting, balloon twisting and free shows.
“We use that stage down there on the Riverwalk, the Greenbelt stage, and have local groups performing on there all day, every day. So that includes Stasia Acrobats, which is a local acrobatic troupe. They have been a longtime fixture of Youth Jam. They perform for us every year. It's always a favorite. We have other different youth musicians. The Idaho Falls Youth Symphony will come down. We have a lot of singers. We have a magician that will perform on Friday afternoon, so that's kind of a wonderful feature as well,” said Goodlander.
The Idaho Falls Art Council strives to bring performing and visual arts to the community with diverse experiences where everyone can participate.
