REXBURG—BYU-Idaho's devotional speakers on Tuesday talked about the importance of building a strong foundation of faith to resist temptation and why service is so important.

President Robert E. Chambers and Sister Robin S. Chambers are the president and matron of the Rexburg Idaho Temple of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. They spoke at Tuesday's BYU-Idaho devotional.

In his address, President Chambers spoke about being positioned firmly in the gospel of Jesus Christ to be resistant to sin and temptations.

“The Lord has given us a way to understand how we can be steadfast, immovable, resistant to the forces of the mortal winds that blow so that we don't have to stray from our covenant path,” President Chambers shared in an interview with BYU-Idaho Radio.

To achieve this level of firmness, he offered listeners two points to focus on. The first is to “Choose Heavenly Father.” From this point President Chambers highlighted the Plan of Salvation, and God’s desire to exalt and bless His children.

“For God’s children to be exalted, His Plan of Redemption requires that we use our moral agency to choose Him,” President Chambers said in his devotional address.

President Chambers’ second point is to “Stay connected to the temple.” He taught that temple work for ancestors is a show of love and service, to them and to God.

Sister Chambers spoke about the importance of service to others.

“By some incredible miracle, we, ourselves, receive the immediate blessing of joy when we serve,” Sister Chambers said.

Sister Chambers taught that just as Jesus went through His life constantly doing good and serving others, everyone should strive to do the same. In an interview with BYU-Idaho Radio Sister Chamber shared how listeners can serve others more effectively.

“I think a big part of that is just observing people and really noticing the people around you and what their needs might be,” she said.

Both President and Sister Chambers addresses shared the importance of service in the temple and the benefits it has to those who serve and those being served.
