An array of classic airplanes takes to the skies this Saturday at 9 a.m. for the Rexburg Air Show. Air Show director, Legacy Flight Museum board member and pilot Kevin Lee says more than 10,000 people watch the Rexburg Air Show. Pilots fly in from Montana, Utah, Idaho and Wyoming.

The show will feature aerobatic pilots, World War II Warbirds, a flour bomb competition, food, music and so much more.

Lee says they want to have a mixed bag of performances and feature a lot of the planes in the museum.

“Most of them are not just museum pieces but they’re actually flying, living airplanes that get flown regularly, which is pretty unique for a museum,” Lee said. “A lot of planes are just static displays or don’t ever fly.”

Among the planes in the museum is the De Havilland Caribou. The Caribou was used as a transport plane in Vietnam and is big enough to drive a Jeep into. What made the Caribou such an asset was its ability to carry big shipments of cargo or people. It can also land on short grass or dirt runways. This plane could get places other big planes couldn’t.

Lee says the Caribou will be the highlight of the airshow.

The best seats in the house will be on the west side of the runway at the Rexburg Airport. You can also watch the show from South Park and Nature Park. There will be parking along Airport Rd. and down to the transfer station. Parking directors will help you find a spot.

If you stay after the show, you can meet the pilots and see the airplanes up close.

“Just come and see it, feel it, smell it,” Lee said. “This is a unique Air Show because you’re right there close to the line by the airplanes. It’s fast moving, there’s not much waiting, so you’ll see a lot in a short period of time.”
