News on the Upcoming Rexburg Farmer's Market

BYU-Idaho Radio · News on the Upcoming Rexburg Farmer's Market
It’s been over a year since the COVID-19 outbreak was classified as a pandemic. Since then, people all over the country have been itching at the chance to get outside and do something fun. Now, with vaccines rolling out nationwide, the public is looking to find those opportunities.

One event that will be returning is the Rexburg Farmer’s Market. Last year, the farmer’s market saw a reduction in attendance, as it was postponed until June. This year though, market manager Abegeal Brown said people are excited for it to come back.

“The last time I checked, we are between 35 and 40 vendor applications already, and we are just continuing to see those numbers rise as we get closer to the opening day of the season,” she said in an interview.

Brown said there are a couple of reasons as to why they think the vendor applications are coming quicker than usual. One reason is the farmer’s market is returning to the Madison County Fairgrounds, which provides a lot more space for vendors than their previous location at College Avenue.

The other reason is that people are excited to try out new things they learned during lockdown.

“When people were at home during lockdown, people picked up new hobbies like soap making or baking. I think they started to ask, ‘what can I do to use this to get some more cash in my pocket?’” Brown said.

This all adds up, as Brown has been seeing new vendors applying for spots at the market already. There’s a lot of variety in food stands and artisan vendors. Expect to see the favorites like scones, fudge and lemonade for sale. There will also be new stands that are making their first appearance in the area.

“I think you’ll see a really great variety of prepared hot foods for date nights, grocery items you can take home, or a fun variety of baked goods and artisans,” Brown said.

The Rexburg Farmer’s Market starts Mother’s Day weekend and continues until mid-October. To find out more information about the market, visit their website, rexburgfarmersmarket.org.
