A bill that would limit which flags can be flown on Idaho state property is headed to the house floor. On Wednesday morning, the House State Affairs Committee voted on House Bill 96, which states that only specific flags would be allowed to be flown on government land. Those flags include: the American flag, state flag, tribal flags, P.O.W. flags, and M.I.A. flags, as well as military flags and flags of the government itself.

Bill sponsor, Rep. Heather Scott, R-Dist. 2, says the bill would bring Idahoans together and provide further guidance for state agencies.

"I believe this bill is necessary for government to be neutral and unified," Scott said. "Government buildings should represent all Idahoans and not be used for political or social movements."

The bill would not bar private residents or businesses from flying any flag of their choice. The bill was sent to the floor on a 13-2 vote with a "do pass" recommendation.
