Nature Park's new pre-teen playground

BYU-Idaho Radio · Nature Park's new pre-teen playground

A new playground for preteens is in the works at Rexburg’s Nature Park.

Nature Park is already rich with activities for the public to enjoy like disc golf, pickleball, walking trails, the dog park, ponds and a children’s playground.

Rexburg economic developer Daniel Torres says the Rexburg City Council wanted to add something specifically for the early teenagers, so they made plans for an advanced playground.

“It has a 100-foot zipline, and kind of a rope woven playing structure as well as some probably more advanced climbing features for older kids,” Torres said.

In 2018, the Rexburg City Council made plans for the new playground. In the middle of last year, another city ordered equipment for a jungle gym, but had to cancel it, so Rexburg purchased it with a discount.

“I guess you could say the stars just kind of aligned for us to be able to acquire it right now,” Torres said.

The installation of the playground was postponed due to mud from the rain, but assuming the weather stays dry, the jungle gym will be finished in the second or third week of May.

“We hope that this serves families,” Torres said. “Again, it’s going to be there with frisbee golf and pickleball and some of the nature park stuff and we hope they enjoy it.”

Community members are invited to the grand opening of the playground upon completion.
