Ever wonder what it was like to live in medieval times? Tomorrow, theIdaho Museum of Natural History and the Pocatello chapter of the Society for Creative Anachronism, or SCA, are putting on a medieval festival called Mabon where people can learn about life many hundreds of years ago.

“I hope that they will get an appreciation for how similar we actually are to people of the past, as well as how different,” Ann Thomson, a member of SCA said. “I think we focus on, oh, that was so long ago, and then we see that it's still things that people do today just in a different way.”

The free family friendly event takes place at Pocatello’s Natural History Museum and starts at 10 a.m. Activities include music and sewing demonstrations, combat reenactments in armor, artifact displays and activities for children.

The SCA is a non-profit dedicated to educating people about pre-17th century skills and culture and everyone is welcome to attend the festival.

“You never know, there might be something that just really piques your interest,” Thomson said. “Whether it's the clothes, whether it's making things, whether it's armor and swords and shields and painting, there's a million and one things to do. If you have any interest at all in learning about the past come see us.”
