Jay and Brittany Gill, owners of Masala Indian Cuisine in Rexburg, are bringing more than just food to the table, they’re adding a personal touch to Rexburg’s restaurant scene.
After running an Indian restaurant in Virginia Beach for 11 years, the couple relocated their family to Rexburg and decided to open Masala Indian Cuisine.
“We wanted to add what we could to the Rexburg food scene,” Brittany said. “So, when we opened, we wanted something more like a date night-type restaurant, but also something that could be enjoyed by everybody.”
The Gills have tailored their menu to appeal to a wide range of diners, paying close attention to ingredients and dietary needs to ensure there really is something for everyone.
“We've had some people reach out to us with a really long list of allergens. And because we make everything from scratch, we can sort of customize something that they can eat and enjoy. And they can feel safe coming out and dining with us,” Brittany said.
To accommodate those who aren’t ready to try something new, they recently added pasta to the menu, but many who do try the Indian food end up returning for more.
“We have definitely seen really positive feedback from the Rexburg area. A lot of support. We do get a lot of returning customers. And a lot of people were excited when we opened up because most people in this area never had Indian food like that,” Jay said.
While Jay is originally from India, the menu includes dishes from across the country, offering customers a broader taste of Indian cuisine.
The Gills encourage the community to support the local businesses around Rexburg.
“Behind every business is somebody just like us. You know, we're families in the community. We live here. We love this community,” Brittany said. “I think sometimes it's easier just to see a business as a business, but we are people and we're community members.”
Masala Indian Cuisine is open Monday through Saturday, serving lunch from 11 a.m. to 2:20 p.m. and dinner from 4:30 to 8:30 p.m. Menus can be found on their website.
