Starting tomorrow, the curtain opens on Madison High School’s production of “Anastasia.”

The story is about a young woman with amnesia named Anya. She embarks on a journey to discover her identity, when she meets two con men who believe she is the lost princess of Russia, Anastasia. The historical drama and fairytale adventure follows Anastasia as she finds her place in the world and chooses her own path.

Senior Aidyn Kunz, who plays Anastasia, and junior Joseph Head, who plays Vlad, are excited to present their hard work to an audience.

“It's been a lot of work, but with everyone working really, really hard, it's come together,” Kunz said. “Near the end, it was crunch time, but as we've worked hard. It's become a really beautiful production.”

“There's a really cool part with the train, and the train rotates around and different people sing on different sides,” Head said. “It's pretty incredible. There's some amazing voices, some really, really hard workers and some of both.”

You can watch the show at Madison High School’s Performing Arts Center. The show opens Thursday at 7 p.m. with additional shows Friday, Saturday and Monday evenings at 7.

This is Director Ryan Snelgrove’s directing debut.

“Every character has two songs. Plus, there's a lot of ensemble and chorals in it,” Snelgrove said. “I knew a lot of people could show off their talent without it being focused on one or two individuals. That, as well as the fact that “Anastasia” is a modern musical. “Anastasia” is a beloved story. In our community, it would be well received.”

Snelgrove is thankful for the opportunity he has to be the new director.

“Being able to come into this already existing community and already existing structure and have so many willing to help, so many willing to say, have you thought about this and it's been taken out of love and out of support,” Snelgrove said. “The thing that's been overwhelming and rewarding the most has been the gratitude I have in my heart for this community.”
