Cougar fans were definitely not expecting this out of Aj Dybansta.

The No.1 NBA prospect might stay at BYU.

Dybansta came to BYU as the No.1 high school recruit in the country and since his first minute on the court in the Marriott Center, every basketball analyst in the country started to list him as the future No.1 pick in the 2026 NBA Draft.

In an interview with Deseret News, however, Dybansta said he may have different plans for his future.

“I might not leave,” Dybansta said.

Social media immediately blew up when the interview aired. And to fan the flame even more, BYU announced that 5-star recruit Bruce Branch has committed to the program.

The 6-foot-7 wing is the #6 player in the 2026 class. He played at Perry High School in Arizona before transferring to Prolific Prep in Florida.

While nothing is confirmed yet, BYU could potentially have one of the longest, most talented backcourts in college basketball.

BYU takes on Texas Teach at home on Saturday, and this game could determine the Cougars spot in the Big 12 Championship bracket. BYU will either be placed in the 9 or 10 seed and will see a first-round matchup between Utah or Kansas.
