Since 1865, the Salvation Army has been seeking to love God and love others.

The Salvation Army is first and foremost a church. The members seek to be the hands and feet of Jesus through service.

Captain Ernie Evans with the Salvation Army Pocatello Corps said four years ago, they used more than $400,000 for COVID-19 related services in the community. Now, they’re trying to get out of debt.

Evans says one of the best ways to help the Salvation Army is by giving your time.

“If you sign up to bell ring for two hours, that two hours often brings in $200, and that can be broken down to serve the community for a week instead of just two hours,” Evans said

Bell ringers collect donations in red kettles to support homeless and families in need, disaster response services, rehabilitation centers, casework and counseling, senior centers, Christmas programs and more.

People can even serve with their talents. That may be through giving guitar lessons, or checking for viruses on their computers.

“The service avenue is endless with us because we do a lot of things across the board,” Evans said.
