A Rexburg real estate agent has crafted anAmazing Race-style competition for people of all ages.
Sydney McCleve said that while she has loved living in Rexburg the past 12 years, she wished there were more events for families and community members of all ages. That’s when she decided to create one of her own, which she hopes will become an annual event.
“I didn’t really find that there was anything that was family oriented that was a celebration that could be for all the kids and all ages and also have some kind of thrill-seeking, puzzle-solving aspect to it too,” McCleve said. “I think that’s where this little idea stemmed from, it was just me as a mom wanting that for my kids and just waiting for another event to come around, but then not finding it.”
McCleve said she loves “The Amazing Race” and has even applied to be on the show multiple times. She said she loves how the reality TV show has a “grand scale” of places to cover and utilizes team efforts. Having this interest, she used the show as inspiration for the upcoming event including the use of detours and clues around the city.
Detours may also include prizes in addition to the grand prize of $5,000.
McCleve said the end of the event will include an “after party” from 4 to 8 p.m.
"And we invited all the farmers market, all of our food trucks, vendors and all of our small businesses around Rexburg to come and participate,” McCleve said.
The grand prize is growing in size and is an accumulation of donations from local businesses. McCleve said she hopes it can do some good for those in the community.
“I just imagine it being like this family who’s trying to save up for a house or like somebody who wants a downpayment for a house or who wants to pay off their credit card debt,” McCleve said. “It’s a hard day to be a parent or a single student and having to work for every dime that you make. So, I’m just excited to create a fun opportunity for somebody to make some money and just take care of themselves with it.”
Registration for this year’s event is open now until Aug. 1. Participants can sign up online here and can use the promo code BYUIRADIO25 for $10 off. The promo is good from July 10 through July 17.
The event is Aug. 2, 2025 in Porter Park and will start at 11 a.m.
