REXBURG — October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month. To raise awareness for the disease, the Idaho Falls Symphony, in collaboration with Mountain View Hospital, hosts its annual Pink Ribbon Concert. This year, the symphony will take the stage on Saturday, Oct. 14.
The concert will kick off the symphony’s 74th season.
“We came up with the program for this concert many months ago as part of our 74th season,” said Thomas Hauser, the director of the Idaho Falls Symphony. “Since then, we've been putting all the pieces together. We’ve hired the musicians of the Idaho Falls Symphony who come from all over our area and out of state as well.”
The namesake of this edition of the concert comes from a piece from living composer, Anna Clyne, titled “Masquerade.”
Besides supporting the cause of breast cancer awareness, Hauser says most people will enjoy this concert.
“I say all the time for first time audiences, you only need to come once to get hooked on this experience,” Hauser said. “Every concert is what I call babysitter worthy. So, if you're a young family who needs to get the extra step of getting some childcare so you can make it a night on the town. It is absolutely worth it.”
The concert will feature 60 musicians who donate hundreds of hours to the music. The symphony is constantly looking for volunteers to help with future performances.
“We have a great volunteer base,” Hauser said. “That is ushers, ticket takers all the way up to members of our volunteer board of directors. So, there's a lot of ways to get involved. I think coming to the concert and being part of the experience is the first step for folks to just kind of see what they like.”
A concert prologue with Hauser will take place an hour before the show at 6:30 p.m. on Oct. 14 at the Frontier Center for the Performing Arts, formerly known as the Idaho Falls Civic Center for Performing Arts. The concert will follow at 7:30 p.m. To get single concert tickets or season tickets, find more details as well as see a full calendar of events, visit www.ifsymphony.org.
