Saturday, the Rexburg Recreation Department will host a 5k called the Teton Dam Tune Up. The race has an official start and finish line and is exactly what it sounds like, an opportunity to get ready for the Teton Dam Marathon and its other races.

The tune-up starts at Smith Park at 9 a.m. and is free to the public. There is no registration, just show up at Smith Park this Saturday and be ready to run.

There will be a preview of the course on the running app Strava before departure and free post-race goodies.

The city of Rexburg's race intern, Elly Fisher, says even if you do not plan to run the marathon on June 1, this 5k is still a great opportunity because it’s free, including the snacks.

“And it also teaches you the layout of the race,” Fisher said. “So, if you’re wanting to come run, come walk or if you’re just wanting to have fun and meet new people this would definitely be a race to come to.”

There is still time to register for the Teton Dam Marathon, half marathon, 10k or 5k. To guarantee you get a swag bag, T-shirt and award, be sure to register by May 15. Registration ends May 30 and the race is June 1.

If you are interested in being a volunteer for the Teton Dam Marathon or still need to register for the race, visit rexburgraces.com.

Fisher says there are about 300 who run in the marathon every year.

“It's pretty amazing to see the community come together and help out with this race,” she said. “The volunteers are in charge of cheering racers on, giving them water and Gatorade, snacks when they need it and helping them know the layout of the race.”

Every Thursday at 6 p.m., the Rexburg Run Club meets in various locations across Eastern Idaho to run various distances. If you are signed up for any of the Rexburg races or are just interested in building a community of runners visit Rexburg.org for more information.
