It was a busy day for those volunteering and working at the brand-new Nitro gas station and new Swig location just off of 2nd E in Rexburg today.
Hundreds of people gathered for the event today with empty stomachs and a thirst to quench, hoping to grab a free drink from Swig, a half-off chicken tender lunch and a chance to win some big prizes.
“We’re doing our grand opening for Nitro Station,” said Ben Borchert, the man behind all the marketing for Nitro. “It’s our family community, not your average ‘C’ store, it’s your home. So, we want to invite all the Rexburg community and students alike, everybody that wants to come in and have an experience like no other as far as a convenience store goes.”
The grand opening for both Swig and Nitro is happening today, and Swig will continue its grand opening tomorrow, with raffle prizes from cruises to kayaks and even grills.
Borchert says this won’t be your typical gas station.
“When we say, ‘Nitro Station is fuel for your life’ and when you come in the store you hear ‘welcome home,’ we want you to feel as welcome when you come in our door as you do when you go in your own home,” Borchert said.
According to owner Dillon McSpadden, Swig, a popular soda shop from Utah, is excited to bring its sweet drinks to the Rexburg area and hopes to expand to Idaho Falls soon.
“I’m from Utah, so Swig’s kind of one of those brands where it’s a staple in the state,” McSpadden said. “So, growing up, just going and getting a treat with the family or with friends, I always loved it. Then it started growing bigger, and we just decided we wanted to invest into a great brand with a good story. And that’s exactly what Swig was.”
The grand opening is exactly what McSpadden believes Swig should be: a fun and inviting environment.
“It’s the environment. It just brings people a smile and I think that’s the biggest thing, especially in business,” McSpadden said. “If you can find a way to have fun, it just means a lot to everyone.”
