REXBURG—Superintendent of Public Instruction Debbie Critchfield shared her new goals for 2024 in five primary priorities for all students K-12 in the state of Idaho, following Gov. Brad Little’s State of the State address.

Critchfield introduced her five priorities on Tuesday through a YouTube video on the Idaho Department of Education’s page. Her priorities include:

  • Increasing student achievement in literacy and math
  • Prepare students for life and learning outside the classroom
  • Recruiting and maintaining quality educators
  • Modernizing state school funds
  • Addressing the mental and behavioral health in students.

With a concern for the welfare of Idaho teachers, Critchfield shared a link in the description of the video to invite teachers “to reach out and share [their] success stories, frustrations, and hopes.” This one active way helps the teachers to be a part of Critchfield’s priorities in 2024, she said.

“A new year can be a springboard for hope,” she said. “I want Idaho education to offer that same feeling to students.”
