REXBURG— The Driggs Downtown Sounds concert’s second group, the ‘Will Baxter Band,’ will perform a free concert on Friday from 6- 8 p.m.
Will Baxter Band is prominent in the Salt Lake City music scene. The band is known for its socially aware lyrics as well as blends of soul, folk, funk, americana and R&B music.
Will Baxter, the frontman of the Will Baxter Band, singer and songwriter as well as guitarist, formed the group 15 years ago. He originally formed it with Adam Fifield on the organ and bass and Wachira Waigwa-Stone on drums.
Baxter started pursuing his dream in Salt Lake City when he learned he was having a daughter. In a moment of reflection, he imagined what he could teach her about.
“I realized that I could teach her through my life and actions that life is about following your dreams and believing in yourself,” Baxter said.
For the last 13 years, Baxter has performed professionally.
The group has since changed, but the band remains as the Will Baxter Band. For the Driggs show, the six-piece group will perform as a four-piece: Ben Stevens on piano, organ and trumpet; Mike Sorich on drums; Baxter with the vocals and guitar; and Andrew Pincock on the bass.
Music lovers can listen to Will Baxter Band’s latest album, “Drip,” an R&B album inspired by Baxter’s partner.
“We started dating three years ago, and some of the lyrics and song titles were things that we'd say to each other in passing and kind of lovey things that we would come up with,” Baxter said.
The band recently dropped two singles, “World’s in Trouble” and “You & I.” Listeners can find their music on any music streaming service.
Friday’s concert is an opportunity to experience their music live and connect through music.
“It's this art that you hear and kind of can almost take over your body and mind and soul and you just have this amazing feeling,” Baxter said.
The Will Baxter Band is grateful to the public who come to support their music or listen to their music. The band will be performing in Driggs in the Driggs Plaza on June 12 from 6 to 8 p.m.
