For more than 25 years, Rexburg has welcomed BYU-Idaho students back from their summer break with a large community event.

Experience Rexburg takes place at Porter Park the first Saturday of Fall Semester every year and includes live music, food vendors and representation from local businesses.

Amelia Lusk, who works with the Rexburg Area Chamber of Commerce, said the event not only allows students to get to know the community, but it also allows the community to get to know the students.

“I think it is a big benefit to our businesses because our student population is huge. When students get back into town, Rexburg grows by 20,000 people, and that’s just a great audience. That’s a huge opportunity for our businesses to have these students know who they are,” Lusk said.

Lusk encourages BYU-Idaho students and the community to attend Experience Rexburg on Saturday and to enjoy the many activities at the park, such as rock-climbing and mini-golf.

The event will include raffles as well, with raffle tickets priced at $1.

Those who enter the raffle will have the opportunity to win one of eight mini fridges filled with non-perishable food, business swag items and gift cards.

Employers seeking to hire students will also attend the event and will hand out job applications, providing students with opportunities to find employment.

Experience Rexburg caters especially to college students, but is also family-friendly, with some activities for kids as well.

Lusk said the event had 4,000 - 5,000 people attending last year. She expects an even greater turnout this year as new businesses have joined the community.

“Rexburg is growing so fast, and so a lot of the businesses that come are new businesses. And so even our community members, they need a chance as well to get to know some of these newer businesses or re-acquaint themselves with some that maybe they haven’t really got to know before,” Lusk said.

Experience Rexburg will take place from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday at Porter Park.
