The Republican primary ballot will feature several names on May 19, and one of those belongs to former police officer Mark Fitzpatrick.

“My whole life I’ve been interested in politics,” Fitzpatrick said. “I never thought I would really run for anything because I’ve always been very entrepreneurial, private sector. I was a police officer for 15 years and that was where my interest was.”

But it wasn’t until last November that Fitzpatrick decided to enter the race for governor.

“We got to this November, and nobody was running,” Fitzpatrick said. “I kind of felt like a hypocrite if I didn’t take my own advice and say, ‘Hey, this is where I stand on these issues.’ And in the past few years, have basically had all these things happen to me that prepared me and my family for it. It clicked right then and there. All of that was to prepare us for this run.”

Fitzpatrick says the most important things to him are truth and transparency from the government. And that’s exactly what he intends to do if elected governor.

“When I get in there, I’m going to basically provide the information, skip the mainstream media, decentralize the media and distribute the truth so that they can keep the government in check,” Fitzpatrick said.

Fitzpatrick has been all around the state talking to Idahoans. He says he’s learned a lot by just talking to the people.

“I’m learning from Idahoans that they want truth,” Fitzpatrick said. “Everybody is saying they’re so fed up with corruption and not knowing what’s going on and not being given truth. And my message is exactly that. I am going to meet your demand; the people’s needs.”

And being a native Idahoan himself, he believes he’s the best candidate for the job.

“I would say from the bottom of my heart that I truly love Idaho,” Fitzpatrick said. “I’ve been all over the place and met all kinds of people and they’re amazing. Idaho is beautiful.”

You will find Fitzpatrick’s name on the Republican primary ballot on May 19.
