REXBURG— The Rexburg-Madison County Historical Society makes waves in the community as they try to bridge the gap between the past and the future with their new monthly newsletter.

Doug Ladle is the president of the Rexburg-Madison County historical Society. He grew up in the Rexburg area and has spent the majority of his life being involved in this community.

The historical society was first formed in the 1960s as the “Upper Snake River Valley Historic Society.” Over the years the society has gathered many historic items such as documents or articles, Ladle said.

“At the same time, we thought, the historical society is kind of like on the sunset of its life. We need to make it into a sunrise,” Ladle said.

The historical society wants to continue that legacy and create something that the community can be involved in. Their new motto is “where our past shapes our future.”

“We want to become a resource for people to find that history,” Ladle said.

Ladle said their goals are to preserve and promote Rexburg history. He hopes long-term residents, college students and tourists all feel a part of the community as they learn its history.

The society is introducing a new newsletter “Rexburg: Our City, Our Stories.” The newsletter covers four areas of Rexburg history: memories, then and now, vignettes and heroes.

Each issue covers a different theme; Ladle encourages the community to submit their stories and receive the newsletter by emailing newsletter@rexburghistoricalsociety.org.

“We would love to have people volunteer their stories or experiences,” Ladle said.

The historical society meets on the first Thursday of every month at the Rexburg Center Stake building of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints at 7:30 p.m. Anyone can attend and participate.
