REXBURG—Pebble Creek Ski Area may be known for its snow and ski hills, but Southeast Idaho will have the chance to see the resort in its summer glory this weekend.

The Wildflower Music Festival returns for its 23rd year on Saturday and will feature a variety of activities and events for the community.

Beginning at 2 p.m., several bands and music artists, including American Idol contestant Paige Anne, will perform live and play until the close of the festival at 9 p.m. Attendees will also be able to purchase tickets for the chair lift to ride up and down the mountain and to the barbecue lunch and dinner, which will feature hamburgers, hot dogs, salads and more.

“It’s really just a great way to spend the afternoon and support the Pebble Creek Ski Patrol at the same time,” says Sean McAteer, a volunteer member of the ski patrol.

The festival serves as a fundraiser for the Pebble Creek Ski Patrol to have the money needed to run the mountain and keep skiers, snowboarders and other visitors safe. Funds raised at the event go toward facility upgrades, rescue equipment purchases and general repairs. The festival has become a staple event for Idaho summers.

“It started out small, but over the years as word has gotten around, it has increased in popularity and attendance,” McAteer said. “I would like to think it’s because of what we have established. People know the Wildflower’s coming up the last Saturday in June. Word-of-mouth and social media have all contributed or played a part in increasing our attendance every year.”

In addition to raising funds, the Wildflower Music Festival serves to bring the community together.

“What people enjoy most about it is the opportunity for those of us who spend a winter up there to get back together with friends and people they haven’t seen for a while and catch up and visit,” McAteer said.

McAteer also says the festival gives people the chance to see Pebble without all the snow.

“You get to see different things that are usually covered by snow and ice,” McAteer said. “You get to the top of Bonneville or Snowy Peak and on a clear day, you can see all the way to Jackson Hole. You can see the Tetons from the top of our mountain.”

The Wildflower Music Festival will be this Saturday. Gates open at 1 p.m. and the event will run until 9 p.m.

Discounted tickets are available online until the festival begins. For tickets and more information, go to Eventbrite.
