Casey Cline is an author who just published her first book titled “The Wayfairing Widow.” It’s a historical fiction romance novel set in the 1850s.
The book is based on the travels of the real-life English explorer Isabella Bird and her travels from Europe to America back in 1854. The characters experience several destinations, including Boston, Detroit and New York City.
Cline described the book as a “clean and wholesome historical romance” suitable for all ages.
“I would feel comfortable letting my teenage daughter or my 60-year-old aunt read it,” Cline said.
Cline says publishing her first book has been a dream for her entire life.
“Throughout the years, I’ve had the life goal of publishing a book, and with young kids and a full-time job, it kept getting pushed off,” Cline said. “A few years ago, I was like ok, now’s the time.”
Despite getting around 50 rejections while trying to find a company to publish her book, Cline kept at it and found a publisher who helped her get her first book out this year.
After all the adversity she faced, Cline reflected on the sweet moment when she finally got her first full-length novel out to the world.
“I cried when I opened that box,” Cline said. “I was able to see and hold what was once a blank page and a dream. It was a neat moment. My kids and husband were there, and I wanted to show them to not give up on their dreams. They went through all the struggles with me, so having them there in that moment was really special.”
Even though she feels like a new author herself, Cline has advice to new authors with the same big dreams.
“Don’t give up,” Cline said. “It’s hard, it’s long, it’ll knock you down. I’m one of the most impatient people out there but just be patient with yourself. Be patient with the process and don’t give up. It is hard, but it’s worth it.”
Cline anticipates two more books to come in the series, with book two coming out in September of 2026 and the third releasing in 2027.
