Have you ever heard of a cowboy poet? Allow us to introduce you to Bryce Angell. Born and raised in St Anthony, Angell recently released his new book titled “A Wrangler’s Reckless Writings.”

The book is composed of 70 poems in total, making up roughly a third of all the poems Angell has ever written. He told BYU-Idaho Radio he grew up helping his dad who was an outfitter and guide. He learned to shoe horses at a young age and takes much of his material from those experiences.

“We take an annual trip into Utah and one night I was looking across the fire, and I penned a poem and that was the first poem I wrote, and here we are 10 years later,” Angell said.

Angell has been writing poems since 2015 and compiled some of his favorites into his new book.

“I went by stages in life,” Angell said. “A lot of them are when I was younger, and then when I’m older. I put some holiday poems and things like that in. They’re all cowboy or country. That’s my background. What you see is what you get.”

Angell’s main goal is for people to simply feel good when reading his poems.

“There is nothing in this book that you can’t sit right by your grandma or grandkids and read and come out of it feeling like you’ll fit in the country and be part of the country life,” Angell said. “Country life is incredible. It’s a great way to grow up.”

Despite the publishing process being stressful and confusing at times, Angell says everyone, including aspiring authors, have to simply keep going through adversity.

“You’re going to get discouraged,” Angell said. “I don’t care what you do, you’re going to be discouraged. Just keep going. Get over the top of it and keep going and you’ll be successful. That’s the way it’s been my whole life with everything.”
