A young society based in Idaho Falls is promoting guitar music in the community.
The Idaho Guitar Society is three years old this year. Its mission is “to promote learning, teaching and listening to guitar music through concerts, festivals, competitions, workshops and other public events,” according to its website.
Society founder Sue Schaible said she has played guitar for at least 15 years. She also plays in the society’s ensemble group, which practices together once a week at her house.
Schaible said the group is hoping to incorporate different instruments into their ensemble group in the future, such as harpsichord, flute and violin.
“Right now our concerts have all been guitar concerts. We are looking to the future for involving other types of instruments that play with guitar. It’s quite a versatile instrument,” Schaible said.
The society is holding a flamenco concert on Friday with award-winning international guitarist Misael Barraza Diaz. The performance will be at St. Luke Episcopal in Idaho Falls at 7 p.m.
Tickets are available at the door and may only be purchased with cash. Tickets are also available online here.
The weekend holds more performances on Saturday as well, including free workshops at Chesbros from 1 to 4 p.m. and another performance at First Presbyterian Church at 7 p.m.
