Idaho Falls School of Ballet brings ‘Alice in Wonderland’ to Life on Stage

This week, the Idaho Falls School of Ballet presents its latest production, “Alice in Wonderland” — an imaginative and visually captivating performance that invites the community to experience the timeless tale through the elegance of classical ballet.

This whimsical production aims to captivate audiences of all ages with its vivid costumes, inventive choreography, and a distinctive interpretation of Lewis Carroll’s enduring classic. Though the story is well known, Idaho Falls School of Ballet founder Deborah Bean, notes that its adaptation for the stage offers a fresh and uniquely expressive take on the beloved narrative.

“This is not something that typically hap

pens in a ballet,” Bean said. “The Queen of Hearts, the Mad Hatter, the Cheshire Cat, this ballet has a lot of strong characters.”

In a performance where there are no spoken words, the dancers rely on movement, music and expression to tell Alice’s curious journey through the magical world of Wonderland.

“We really want to elicit a feeling of wonder, not through any words. It’s just a unique way to communicate with an audience,” Bean said.

The production is designed to be family-friendly and accessible, offering a chance for viewers to experience the charm and creativity of ballet through a story they already know and love.

“Alice in Wonderland” will be performed at the Colonial Theatre in Idaho Falls on May 9 at 7 p.m. Tickets are available online at idahofallsarts.org.
