Idaho Falls District 91 is celebrating high school sweethearts with two events this month.
Idaho Falls High School’s “Tigers Tie the Knot” and Skyline High School's “The Blue ‘I Do’” will celebrate couples during two football games this month.
On Sept. 18, during the Idaho Falls football halftime, couples will be given T-shirts, photo booth opportunities and a wedding cake.
They’ll take to the field and line up on hashes for each year of marriage.
The same activity will be held for Skyline High School on Sept. 25.
Alumni from the high schools who married each other will be celebrated during the event. Whether they met in high school or met after high school, they are invited to RSVP for the event.
After the ceremony each couple will be declared either Grizzlies or Tigers for life.
“I think it's a fun way to celebrate families and marriage and football and just all the good things and the legacy that our graduates leave for our district,” said Idaho Falls District 91 Superintendent Karla LaOrange.
She got the idea from attending a conference where a junior college did something similar for their alumni.
“And I just thought, what a fun way to celebrate our schools, our community, families, and being an alumni of an incredible high school like Idaho Falls and Skyline High schools,” LaOrange said.
Interested couples from Idaho Falls High School should RSVP by Friday. Couples from Skyline High School should RSVP by Sept. 18. Couples can RSVP at ifschool.org.
Another large event for the district is the annual Emotion Bowl. The intradistrict rivalry between the Grizzlies and the Tigers has been around for decades.
That football game determines the colors of the goal posts at Ravsten Stadium, which the teams share.
Last year Skyline defeated Idaho Falls 55-13 last year coloring the goal posts blue.
This year, LaOrange says the Tigers are on the prowl.
“Skyline has won more games than Idaho Falls High School. But I.F. is on the prowl and they are hoping to change that,” LaOrange said.
This year’s Emotion Bowl is held Sept. 25 at Ravsten Stadium at 7 p.m.
