The organization, Friends of the Teton Water, will host a 25th anniversary celebration on July 11 in the Driggs City Center Plaza.
The event is free to the public, but it is requested that if attending, patrons RSVP on the Friends of the Teton River’s website. The celebration will include live music, raffles, activities as well as food and drink for purchase.
Amy Verbeten, the group’s executive director, and Patrick Leary, the group’s philanthropy director, said they joined the group because they both have an affinity for the outdoors and wanted to help Idaho’s lands.
“I wanted to introduce other people to these really beautiful parts of our world,” Leary said. “So, I got into environmental education and that’s initially what brought me out here. I have joined this organization to help enable all the great work that we do in out valley to support people of all types.”
Verbeten said as the executive director, she oversees working with the group’s board of directors and set up strategies to create the organization. She said they try to work with farmers and ranchers to look at ways they can manage their businesses to protect water.
“Our mission is that we work together with our community to protect and retore clean water, healthy streams and a thriving wild fishery in the Teton River Watershed,” Verbeten said. “Our programs are in the areas of education, research and stream restoration.”
