Fizz Rizz co-owner, Joseph Aragon, opened the mocktail bar for donations, creating a temporary donation hub for those affected by the Texas floods.
Aragon is hosting the service event with JustServe and has been contacted by other local businesses who want to help.
“Some organizations in Idaho Falls and a couple of other areas reached out and they need a little bit more time, but they are very interested in helping, which is awesome,” Aragon said. “We need all the help we can get. This is my first time organizing a JustServe project. We were going to do it one way or another, but JustServe was so happy to help get things going, and that helped us a lot.”
Donations have been accepted since July 7, and as of now, will be accepted until July 11. Because of flood damages Aragon said it is possible people in need of help won’t be able to have things shipped to them, so items will need to be driven using a special delivery service truck.
“There’s some members on the Chamber that have shown interest and there’s some shipping and logistics companies that are showing interest,” Aragon said. “The Chamber thinks that they have some people that might be able to help sponsor gas money. So, we’re just trying to get the community involved as much as possible.”
Aragon also pointed out that it’s the end of the semester at BYU-Idaho and if college students need a way to declutter their cupboards of non-perishable foods, they should consider donating them.
“I know when I was a college student, I always had leftover canned food that I thought I would buy or eat and never did,” Aragon said.
Aragon hopes more people can hear about the donation drive, so they can make it the best turn out possible.
“I don’t know if everybody’s heard about it yet, so I’m hoping to get a little bit more,” Aragon said. “I think I’ve seen more reception of people who want to do this, which is why I think I’m going to extend it another day or two just to give more people a chance to gather stuff up.”
